Antigua Lounging

I am a BeachGirl at heart. Deep in my soul I’ve always been drawn to the ocean: the sound of the waves crashing against the shore; the smell of the salty air; the way life just feels a little bit easier and happier.  When I was a kid, my family would spend our vacations in Florida, and Cupid struck me early in life; I’ve never found a love greater than mine for the beach.  And I go there as often and to as many beaches as possible!

This summer my extraordinarily good luck took me to the island of Antigua! I had never considered going so far south in the Caribbean before but have enjoyed every island I’d visited thus far, so when the opportunity presented itself, I didn’t hesitate in accepting it!

And it was a great decision! The week I went was actually considered the off-season, which was my summer break. The entire area felt secluded and private. As a matter of fact, most days we were the only two people on the entire beach! Who hasn’t dreamed of spending lazy days wasting away time on a hidden, secluded beach?! I mean, I’ve even had fleeting thoughts of quitting my day job and working in travel! This could be my home base.

I spent the week partying with friendly vivacious locals, exploring as many of the 365 beautiful public beaches as I could fit into my week, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, enjoying the delicious, flavorful local cuisine all around the island, exploring the energetic capital city of St. John’s, and relaxing on the peaceful harbor.

If you’ve ever dreamed of a true island get-away, I can’t recommend any spot I’ve discovered more highly than I do Antigua!

….more to come!
