New Discoveries Series: Tapas on the West Side

Approaching the small, out-of-the-way building set the stage for the evening: lively music and boisterous laughter could be heard coming from the outside patio. We were not disappointed as we entered Barcelona Wine Bar, a hidden gem in the Ironworks district on Atlanta’s Upper West Side. The dimly-lit interior was an elegant mix of ironwork and meticulously polished woodwork. We were greeted enthusiastically by the hostess but chose to sit at the bar for our first experience of what the tapas menu had to offer.

As we found our way to the back side of the long marble topped bar, we were handed menus, which offered a varied assortment of appetizers, tapas, salads, entrees, and shareables.

The wine menu boasts 40 wines by the glass to appease your tasting desires!

We chose to pair our Spanish red with several tapas to eliminate our late night cuisine cravings. My husband and I enjoyed Hanger Steak, Georgia White Shrimp, Minnesota Wild Rice, and Albondigas (Spicy Meatballs in Tomato Sauce). While we waiting for the tapas to begin their arrival, we were served crispy bread and olive oil. Nothing disappointed!

I can easily imagine this place as a regular hangout for the two of us; its ambiance and menu are exactly what we like: elegant, varied, delicious, and sophisticated.

Are you ready to experience Barcelona yourself? Take a trip to 1085 Howell Mill Road and find this little spot for dinner or late night; weekend brunch is also served 11:3. Reservations can be made by calling 404-872-8000. I recommend parking across the street in the large deck, but complimentary valet is available (please tip).

Share this post with your friends, and maybe you guys can meet for late night sips.
